  • FabrizioWard Poll Finds Congressional Candidates Who Back a Federal AI Standard with Protections for Children will Gain Significant Political Advantage

Survey Also Finds Strong Support for Temporary Executive Order Implementing National Standard with Child Protections Until Congress Can Act

Building America’s Future (BAF), a conservative nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting President Trump’s America First agenda, today released new national polling showing that congressional candidates who support a single national standard for AI to protect kids and empower parents gain a decisive political advantage.

The fresh data from FabrizioWard follows recent efforts by Congress last summer and then again in recent weeks to pass a federal law that preempts state AI legislation. President Trump has repeatedly called for Congress to pass such a measure.

The survey of registered voters shows significant initial support for one national AI standard set by the federal government, with a 20-point margin. But support for a national standard is strengthened further when voters are told that it could include specific policies to protect children and empower parents that are widely popular as standalone measures. These policies include:

    • A national law requiring AI platforms to design and operate features to take reasonable steps to reduce risk to minors, including risks of cyberbullying, mental health issues, sexual exploitation, substance abuse, gambling, and self-harm. (85% support)
    • A national law making it a crime to use AI to create intimate or pornographic imagery using a person’s likeness without their consent. (82% support)
    • A national law requiring AI platforms to confirm users’ age before granting chatbot access. (83% support)
    • A national law requiring AI platforms to provide parents with tools to manage their child’s privacy, screen time, and account deletion. (85% support)

Republican lawmakers who support a federal AI standard inclusive of the four provisions above can find that their support increases substantially, turning a 7-point deficit on the generic ballot into a 13-point advantage, a net gain of 20 points. Yet, Republicans who oppose federal action on AI fall further behind on the ballot, dropping 9 points.

The survey also found that voters strongly support President Trump issuing an executive order implementing these provisions while Congress works toward a federal solution to implement this standard by a 31-point margin (60% to 29%).

Earlier in December, BAF launched a six-figure advocacy campaign urging Congress to pass a single federal AI standard. President Trump also issued an executive order earlier this month to curb liberal states like California from mandating “onerous” AI regulations.
