Sec. Noem: “We are really hopeful that this new leader, PM Carney… will work closely with the Trump administration to give us the security, the information, and the partnerships we need.”

Rep. James: “We need [Canada] to take our border security as seriously as they want us to take their sovereignty.”

DETROIT — The America’s Future Tour, a project of Building America’s Future, today hosted U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem at a policy roundtable event focused on the need to secure the northern border and protect Americans from the deadly drugs, illicit trade, and human trafficking infiltrating our country through Canada.

The roundtable highlighted Canada’s failure to adequately help the Trump administration secure the northern border and shined a light on how cartels exploit tribal lands to smuggle drugs and other illicit items into the U.S. The panel also praised President Trump for the actions he has taken to secure the northern border and encouraged him to continue using trade negotiations to ensure Canada steps up its enforcement efforts.

The Secretary was joined by Congressman John James (MI-10), DHS Senior Tribal Advisor on Indian Affairs David Flute, Police Officers Association of Michigan President Jim Tignanelli, Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy, and Angel Mom Patty Morin.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said: “We are really hopeful that this new leader will work closely with the Trump administration to give us the security, the information and the partnerships we need.”

Congressman John James said: “President Trump set out to secure our border, and just by including every means available, tariffs to negotiate, resulted in getting Mexico to surge 10,000 troops up to our southern border at their own expense. And now border apprehensions on the southern border have plummeted. So President Trump kept his promise. He secured our southern border and got Mexico to pay for it. Now, next, we need to secure our northern border, and we need a less than laissez faire approach from our Canadian neighbors, we need them to take our border security as seriously as they want us to take their sovereignty.”

DHS Senior Tribal Advisor on Indian Affairs David Flute said: “The cartels know that tribes lack the law enforcement to police those borders… one of the solutions is partnering with the federal and state government… tribes need to exercise their sovereignty and enter into these agreements with state and local law enforcement.”

    BACKGROUND:

    • Building America’s Future in April launched an expansion of “Chaos at the Border” to confront the challenges at the northern border.
      • The launch was paired with a six-figure ad, “Predator” that ran across TV and digital in the Washington, DC media market.
      • In early May, BAF bracketed the White House meeting between President Trump and Canadian PM Mark Carney with mobile billboards urging PM Carney to help President Trump secure the northern border.
      • In May, BAF also launched an experiential outdoor advertising campaign in Canada outside the B7 Summit on May 14 and May 15, telling Prime Minister Carney to secure our shared border.
      • Also in May, BAF released polling on the growing crisis at the U.S.-Canada border that found seven in ten likely general election voters think the US-Canada border needs better security.
      • BAF launched its latest ad “Lock the Door” in June labeling Canada as MIA in the fight to secure the northern border.
    • Building America’s Future spent nearly $2 million on “Chaos at the Border” advertising in 2024, which highlighted the disastrous results caused by the Biden-Harris southern border crisis and Harris’ leadership as “Border Czar.” Examples of last year’s ad campaigns are as followed:
      • BAF launched #SayTheirNames in August, which was backed by over $500,000 in spending in key battleground states and focused on highlighting the innocent lives that have been lost across the country because of Harris’ refusal to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border.
        • The ad ran on digital platforms in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bracketing Harris’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.
      • The group ran a five-figure digital ad buy across battleground House districts highlighting Democrat opposition to the SAVE Act. The SAVE Act is a bill that will keep illegal immigrants from voting in federal elections.
      • Again” bracketed the first presidential debate in Atlanta, Georgia and was a follow up from the viral “Run” ad that highlighted murders by illegal immigrants and pinned the blame on the Biden Administration.
      • “Trump was Right” was a six-figure digital ad that used Donald Trump’s prophetic comments about illegal immigration to hammer Joe Biden for the dangerous results of his open border agenda.
